Description:New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, and the Andy Warhol Foundation, New York, will host an extensive regional exhibit consisting of works from artists in a five state region. This exhibit is made possible by a prestigious grant provided by the Warhol Foundation to New Mexico State University. Thirty artists have been selected from the top artists in New Mexico, West Texas, Colorado, Arizona and Utah. The exhibit, unlike any displayed in the state before, will showcase the works of great artists in the Southwest region, demonstrating the wide variety and diversity of works finding inspiriation in the Southwest. The Art 5 Exhibit is currently being installed and will open at the New Mexico State University Art Gallery on August 24th, 2007. Artists will include Sandy Lane, Roger Colombik, Amanda Jaffe, Linda Threadgill, Carol Coates, Monica Martinez, Irene McCray, Jerry de la Cruz, Liz Lyon, Jane Abrams, Alice Briggs, Bill Burgess, Horacio Cordova, Stephen Daly, Gabriella Denton, Tom Eckert, Jim Frazer, Carlos Fresquez, Don Green, Aaron Karp, Linda Leonard, Mark Nero, Sean O’Meallie, Santiago Perez, Riva Sweetrocket, Dawn Wilde, Bryan Yancey, Holly Roberts, Erick Renner, Nancy Spencer, Krista Elrick, and Bonita Barlow. Sunday, September 30, 3:00 p.m. in the NMSU Art Gallery, Williams Hall. As part of the Art-5 Regional invitational Exhibition the NMSU Art Gallery presents a Conversational Concert with performer and recording artist Randy Granger titled “From Inspiration to Creation, Music and Method.” In an informal discussion Granger will perform and discuss songwriting, playing techniques, composing for the Native American flute and the Swiss Hang (hung) drum as well as answer audience questions. Granger was featured recently on National Public Radio’s “Sound Clip” series and is a touring musician. The Art-5 Regional invitational Exhibition will be on display through October 12, 2007. NOVEMBER 2-5TH, "Five Stony Pieces," based on the sculpture of Dan Tapper and featuring choreography by Debra Knapp on November 2, 3,and 4 at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N Downtown Mall in Las Cruces. Each piece has original music and poetry to accompany and interpret it. The music is composed and performed by Geof Abruzzi, Randy Granger, Ed Pias, Justin Raines, and Alison Reynolds. Original poetry is by Sara Cooper, Wayne Crawford, Joe Somoza, Dick Thomas, and Nena Villamil. Visuals are by Xavier Madrid and Lighting Design by Peter Herman. Dancers are Shawna Angulo, Vanessa Campos, Robert Clark, Rachel Diehl, Marty Dorado, Angela Favela, Dedee Harvey, Shelby Kartchner, Alexandra Martinez, Allison Martinez, Kristie Medina, Sarah Navarrete, Joe Putman, Casey Russell, Alyx Sanchez, Carlos Saucedo, Delia Shattuck, and Candace Williams.
